AUTUMN LEAVES by Charles Dickens (English, 1812-1870)

 AUTUMN leaves, autumn leaves
  Lie strewn around me here,
 Autumn leaves, autumn leaves,
How sad, how cold, how drear!
How like the hopes of childhood's day,
  Thick clust'ring on the bough!
How like those hopes in their decay—
  How faded are they now!

 Withered leaves, withered leaves,
  That fly before the gale;
 Withered leaves, withered leaves,
  Ye tell a mournful tale
Of love once true, and friends once kind,
  And happy moments fled:
Dispersed by every breath of wind,
  Forgotten, changed, or dead.

A snowy communications day puts things in perspective

DHS students attended St. Bonaventure College  Communication Day

The CITIZEN staff goes to college

Students from Dunkirk High School trek to St Bonaventure in a snow covered bus for the annual Communications Day event.  The event is educational and fun.  Students are given a menu of workshops to choose, such as, feature writing, photojournalism, and sports reporting. Expert presenters show them the real world application of such  career choice.   Along with a good breakfast and a great lunch the event is great.
News people from all over the east coast gather here for the event. They reflect upon their career  in journalism or photography and share some of their experiences with the attendees.  Many of the speakers are former students coming back home to inspire future journalist.
According to DHS stuent Rebecca Catalano,  "I really like taking pictures, and thanks to what I learned from the presenter, I 'm seriously considering a career in photojournalism."
Overall Communications Day at St. Bonaventure proved successful for all who attended.
