WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN

We welcome you and your child to the Dunkirk City School District. This is an exciting time and hopefully the information below will answer some of your questions. If you have additional questions you can call 366-9300 extension 2710.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION:

Registrations are done by appointment. You can register your child for Kindergarten by calling 366-9300 extension 2710 for an appointment.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:            Child’s Birth Certificate                 Child’s Immunization Record

Proof of Guardianship (if needed)         Proof of residency of the parents or guardians  

ID for the Parent/Guardian

KINDERGARTEN SCREENING:

During the Registration you will be given an appointment time for your child’s Kindergarten Screening. The screening is done by a School Nurse and will consist of a health history, and a speech evaluation. The appointment days and times for the screening are scheduled for May or June.

SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT:

Your child will be given a school assignment after the Registration and the Kindergarten Screening are completed. Dunkirk has four elementary schools. Your child’s school assignment will be mailed in August.

SCHOOL LUNCH:

A completed school lunch application is needed to qualify your child for a free or reduced price school lunch. You will need to provide income information on the application. The application will be mailed in August.

BUSSING:

Transportation is provided to students who live two or more miles from their school or if a student requires transportation for medical reasons.

Attendance:

The school day begins at 8:00 and ends at 2:25 for the Kindergarteners. Regular school attendance is required and if your child is absent from school you must send a written excuse.
