Thirty students from the Intermediate School were recognized by the Buffalo Bills last month when they traveled to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. The group participated in last year’s Play60 Challenge, a competition that encourages youth to be active at home for 60 minutes a day. Dunkirk finished in fourth place out of more than 300 regional schools.
“My favorite part of the day was meeting the Bills players,” Christopher Oquendo-Vazquez explained, as students told the Board of Education that evening.
“I’ve been a coordinator for the Play60 Challenge for five years, and Principal Texter allowed me to bring the program to the Intermediate School,” said physical education teacher Phil Schnieder. “Our kids were so enthusiastic– it's rewarding just to be active. They couldn’t wait to tell me what they did for their 60 minutes of activity at home the day before.”
