District dedicates room at Secondary School
The Dunkirk City School District recently renamed its Secondary School’s Large Group Instruction Room in a brief ceremony before a Board of Education workshop.
The room, which was built in 2011, was dedicated to and renamed for longtime Board of Education member Reverend Roosevelt Haynes, who passed away on December 14, 2018. It is now called The Reverend Roosevelt Haynes Large Instruction and Conference Room.
Superintendent Michael Mansfield said, “No individual is more deserving of this recognition than Reverend Haynes. It is a privilege to celebrate him and all he did for the students and schools of Dunkirk.”
Haynes moved to Dunkirk in 1968 with his wife LaPearl, who will attend Tuesday’s dedication, and lived here for over fifty years. He served as president, vice president, and clerk of the school board during his eighteen years as a member.
In 2019, The Observer wrote, “Few individuals touched so many lives in the Dunkirk community as Roosevelt Haynes.”
