Students participate in Hour of Code

Coding

Last week, Dunkirk City School District hosted the Hour of Code at each elementary school across the district. The Hour of Code is a yearly event sponsored by Code.Org.  The Hour of Code is “a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify ‘code,’ to show that anyone can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science.”

Dunkirk High School students from Mr. Pietro’s Computer Science class and Mr. Wright’s Introduction to Engineering class visited all elementary schools during the week to share their experiences with computer science.  Mr. Piero’s students shared their projects which use python language to create a variety of animations.  Mr. Wright’s students demonstrated how they program Vex Robotics using computer programming. The elementary students were taught coding by the high school students in their classrooms. It was an exciting week of learning for all involved.
